Antonio “Champ” Mello, Jr., 97, of West Warwick, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2024 at Sunny View Nursing Home, Warwick.
He was the beloved husband of the late Philomena (Iannitelli) Mello. Born in West Warwick, a son of the late Antonio and Mary (Smeals) Mello. He was a lifelong resident of West Warwick.
Mr. Mello was a cook at the Rhode Island State Medical Center in Cranston for thirty-five years before retiring. He was a WWII Army Veteran, he enjoyed playing keno, crossword puzzles and word search. He also enjoyed visiting the local casinos and meeting his friends daily at the “Gas Station”.
He is survived by four sons, Antonio M. Mello and his wife June, Ernest Mello, Kevin Mello and Michael Mello and his wife Karen; six grandchildren, Lori Silva, Nathan Mello, Jason Mello, Shannon Mello, Jason Galli and Dillon Pinho; six great grandchildren, Danny Leander, Jacob Leander, Shailey Mello, Ashton M. Silva, Ashton Galli and Lucas Galli; a God Child, Patricia Ferreira and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Ferreira-Levine.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Committal Service with military honors at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery Columbarium Committal Center, 301 South County Trail, Exeter on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. (the funeral procession will gather at the cemetery entrance parking lot at 9:45 a.m. and escorted to the Committal Center).
